Can i paint vinyl wall decals.
If your vinyl surface is clean the paint or primer will adhere to the vinyl rather than the dirt and you will have a longer lasting finish.
Paint will not stick to a dirty surface.
Do not paint an unprimed decal or the paint will peel.
When making signs using vinyl letters and logos we always use oil based paints as they last longer.
Many clear coat paints will remove or tarnish and smear printed decals.
If on the other hand you are using an oil based paint not common in most areas nowadays you can apply vinyl graphics or decals or stickers within a week or so as oil paints dry from the outside in.
You can get a new fresh look on your vinyl furniture simply by painting the vinyl.
A clear coat or several can add pristine uniform gloss.
Rim caps or tiny applications or your decals have fine details such as a die cut vinyl decal that might otherwise catch on it s sharp corners.
Please also note most vinyl decal material has an outdoor durability rating based on the angle of which the decal is applied.
For example a 6 year vinyl material we use mostly oracal 6 year proven commercial grade vinyl is rated at up to 6 years outdoor durable or longer when applied at a 90 degree angle plus or minus 10 degrees.
Do not prime an unabraded decal or the finish will flake.
You can also use a primer between the vinyl and the paint.
Be sure your vinyl is clean before applying paint by washing it with soap and water and rinsing well.
Depending on the type of wall paint.
Do not abrade the decal using sandpaper with a grit lower than 220 as this may damage the sticker.
